The nonprofit\u2019s mission is to support economic development in the Black community through education, enterprise and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis celebration is more than an awards ceremony \u2014 it is a powerful reflection of the role Black businesses play in shaping the economic and cultural fabric of the greater Washington region,\u201d said Aisha Bond, president and CEO of the GWBCC.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Honorees include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/washington\/news\/2023\/03\/24\/kristina-noell-anacostia-bid.html\">Kristina Noell<\/a>, the first African American woman to serve as a Business Improvement District executive director in Washington, D.C.; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefreshfoodfactory.com\/herstory\">Amanda Stephenson<\/a>, founder of the Fresh Food Factory, which combats food deserts in Ward 8; and <a href=\"https:\/\/yusufhenriques.com\/\">Yusef Henriques<\/a>, who launched a genomics startup in D.C. to advance health equity for Indigenous and African diasporic communities. Also recognized are chefs Mac McAlister and Pinkey Reddick, owners of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flavorture.com\/\">Flavorture<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtoninformer.com\/b-doyle-mitchell-industrial-bank\/\">B. Doyle Mitchell Jr.<\/a>, president and CEO of Industrial Bank; and Denise Barnes, owner and publisher of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtoninformer.com\/\">The Washington Informer<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The awards reception is a featured event in the chamber\u2019s <em>Art of Black Business<\/em> series, which honors entrepreneurs for their efforts to sustain, build and inform communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dcworkforceconsortium.com\">Capital Workforce Innovation Consortium<\/a>, a program of the Department of Employment Services, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buildwithin.com\/\">BuildWithin<\/a> will also be recognized as the Business Partnerships of the Year.
