{"id":1243728,"date":"2026-01-23T22:37:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T03:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.washingtoninformer.com\/?p=1243728"},"modified":"2026-01-23T23:47:30","modified_gmt":"2026-01-24T04:47:30","slug":"prince-georges-county-council-appoints-bowie-mayor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.washingtoninformer.com\/prince-georges-county-council-appoints-bowie-mayor\/","title":{"rendered":"Prince George&#8217;s County Council Appoints Bowie Mayor Tim Adams"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Prince George\u2019s County Council <a href=\"https:\/\/pgccouncil.us\/m\/newsflash\/Home\/Detail\/1951\">appointed<\/a> Bowie Mayor Tim Adams to fill the vacant District 4 seat, which was occupied by former Councilmember Ingrid Watson, during a Jan. 23 virtual hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe congratulate Mayor Adams and look forward to him joining us on the council,\u201d said Council Chair Krystal Oriadha (District 7), during the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oriadha also celebrated Adams as a barrier breaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn welcoming the first council member to serve while using a wheelchair, we celebrate a milestone in inclusivity,\u201d she continued. \u201cI know his leadership will inspire us to prioritize accessibility and representation in our legislative efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first African American mayor of Bowie and the longtime CEO of a defense contracting firm, Adams will be joining the council in coming days.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDistrict 4 reflects many of the same priorities I\u2019ve addressed at the municipal level, including strong schools, reliable transportation, affordability, environmental stewardship, and thoughtful development that serves existing communities as well as future generations,\u201d Adams told the Council during Friday\u2019s public selection process. \u201cMy commitment is to listen first, govern responsibly, and be a reliable partner focused on advancing the best interests of District 4 and Prince George\u2019s County as a whole.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Greenbelt Mayor Emmett Jordan and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.julietagocha.com\/\">Dr. Juliet Agocha<\/a>, an advocate who runs a tech company, also filed for the vacancy.
