{"id":1244598,"date":"2026-02-11T00:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T05:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.washingtoninformer.com\/?p=1244598"},"modified":"2026-02-11T16:07:35","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T21:07:35","slug":"prince-georges-chamber-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.washingtoninformer.com\/prince-georges-chamber-growth\/","title":{"rendered":"Prince George&#8217;s Chamber of Commerce Talks Goals for Local Businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Touting growth, new programming and an upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/2026-business-and-economic-summit-tickets-1981367550681?utm-campaign=social&amp;utm-content=attendeeshare&amp;utm-medium=discovery&amp;utm-term=listing&amp;utm-source=cp&amp;aff=ebdsshcopyurl\">Business and Economic Summit<\/a> on Feb. 13, the&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/pgcoc.org\/\">Prince George\u2019s Chamber of Commerce<\/a> is preparing for a strong 2026, as they work to bolster local businesses through innovative opportunities, partnerships and advocacy.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alexander Austin, president and CEO of the Prince George&#8217;s Chamber of Commerce, is focused on advocating for the businesses the organization represents during this legislative session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe want to make sure we have balanced legislation at multiple levels that are fair for the business community and positive for the community as a whole.&nbsp; We promote access to capital,&nbsp; including alternative capital. When capital dries up, our businesses suffer. Recent changes to the SBA\u2019s 8a program will have more impact on our area than other parts of the country,\u201d he continued. \u201cWe are creating goals and activities and actions to ensure that the business community is moving forward and supporting the broader community as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having served in his role since 2022, some of the highlights of Austin\u2019s leadership have been the <a href=\"https:\/\/pgcoc.org\/equity-in-procurement\/\">Equity in Procurement<\/a>, a six-month business development and training program, and supporting nearly 300 enterprises with a Verizon <a href=\"https:\/\/pgcoc.org\/verizon-small-business-digital-ready-program\/\">small business grant<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe reached out to over 100 companies who wanted to work with the program and we have around 30 members in both our first and second cohort. During the association\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtoninformer.com\/local-business-leaders-honored\/\">annual gala in October 2025<\/a>, the chamber honored Flournoy\u2019s salon as an emerging business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBeing recognized by the chamber has been incredibly meaningful for us, especially as the first hair-only business to receive this level of recognition,\u201d she said. \u201cIt provided validation that we are on the right path and affirmed the work we\u2019ve been committed to in our industry and community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Austin touts the benefits of chamber membership to both new and existing businesses across the entire metropolitan region, not just in Prince George\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur membership has grown over the past years. New programming that grants access to sustainable funding and sustainable business,\u201d&nbsp; said Austin. \u201cWe need that ongoing growth to keep a viable county.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the chamber plans the upcoming Business and Economic Summit on Feb. 13 at 4400 Forbes Boulevard in Lanham, Maryland, Austin also emphasized the organization\u2019s multiple efforts to support local businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe also bring education and resources to the table.\u00a0 One of the most important things we focus on is staying focused on what is important to each business. We tailor those specific needs to what you say you need, not what we think you need.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Salon 809, which opened in 2015, flourishing today, Flournoy thanked the organization for expanding her entrepreneurial horizons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur chamber membership has been invaluable.
